40 Warriors vs 40 Mages: Rextroy’s Epic Battlefield Showdown

Emma's Avatar by Emma

We’ve seen what happens when 40 Paladins go up against 40 Evokers—but what happens when you set 40 Mages loose on 40 Warriors? Rextroy decided to find the answer to this question on the Field of Strife.

The Rules

  • The victor is decided after the best of 5 rounds
  • All players must stay within the Field of Strife
  • No resurrecting until the current round ends

Recruitment wasn’t perfect: the Mage side ended up with 38 mages, plus a Shadow Priest and an Evoker, thanks to a small attendance hiccup. Still, the battlefield was set.

Round One

Chaos. With the Warriors stacked, the Mages were playing on easy mode. More than half of the Warriors died before even reaching the casters. Round one ended without a single Mage death.

Warrior deaths = 40, Mage deaths = 0

Round Two

A little better for the Warriors… emphasis on little. The Warriors split up more, trying to attack from multiple angles. But unfortunately, Ice Walls stalled large chunks of the army, allowing the Mages to pick them off in small groups.

Warrior deaths = 40, Mage deaths = 6

Round Three

Adaptation was key. Warriors baited out the Ice Walls and attempted to strike at the Mage backline. Some Warriors made it through, but not enough to turn the tide. The Mages ultimately held firm.

Warrior deaths = 40, Mage deaths = 8

Round Four

In the bonus round, the Warriors deployed their super secret tactic—run and hide. Let’s just say it made for some great entertainment.

Warrior deaths = 40, Mage deaths = 3

The takeaway? Even in overwhelming numbers, Warriors face an uphill battle against coordinated casters.
