Creators and dataminers have spotted a particularly interesting overlap between WoW Forever and “Modern WoW”: An ID assigned to the Skyborne race also appears in Midnight data under an interesting name.
Two Skyborne Entries, Two Placeholder IDs
When comparing entries between World of Warcraft’s ChrRaces database tables, two Skyborne “Race IDs” on WoW Forever 1.60.1 reference “TBD NPC Race IDs” on the Midnight 12.1.5 version of this table, which could indicate that Skyborne may have been planned as an NPC race.
Did This Happen With Other Races Before?
This would be the first question that comes to mind – and no, it didn’t, at least to our knowledge. Back in 2017, several allied races were datamined early as well, but with the massive difference that they had character-creation screen references.
Ultimately, this overlap doesn’t confirm that Skyborne will become playable in Modern WoW; however, it’s yet another hint that WoW’s Retail and Classic versions are closer than ever.
