Midnight brings an exciting new feature to the open world, with quite a bit of danger and difficulty to go with it!
Volunteering to be Prey
The Prey system introduces an optional, War Mode-like layer of customization to players’ open-world adventures. In an opt-in system, players will be able to make themselves into both ultimate hunter and prey. This will add new challenges and activities to the zones of Midnight. We will be hunting dangerous elites and bosses, as well as be hunted by them!
Enabled in Silverymoon’s appropriately named Murderer’s Row, the Prey-related faction is led by Astalor Bloodsworn. Players can enable the feature at this NPC, opening up new dangerous and thrilling activities. When enabled, the Prey feature will allow us to hunt enemies across the new zones, but also open us up to ambushes by those same creatures. This isn’t a simple turn-it-once and forget it system either, as there are multiple levels of difficulty for it.
- Normal difficulty introduces players to the system, getting us all warmed up.
- Hard difficulty ups the stakes with some modifiers called Torments, but also enables enclosed boss encounters!
- Nightmare difficulty increases and adds challenges, where players are expected to die a few times!
All of these challenges have their own set of rewards, of course. From mounts to titles, cometics and, perhaps most importantly, Housing items! We’re already imagining trophies of our hunts adorning our homes!

Progression through this track will be shown via a unique crystal UI element, which will also track how the hunt intensifies as players complete more and more challenges.
There will definitely be some worthwhile rewards to chase here, with the new denizens of Quel’thalas and neighboring zones making some fine mounts and decorations! Perhaps Hemmet will be joining in on the fun?
