Beast Mastery in EVERY Top 30 Group! Mythic+ Spec, Group Popularity and DPS Logs

Starym's Avatar by Starym

We skipped our regular DPS log article this week with all the Midnight announcement hype, so we’re sticking a shorter version in here instead! The headline is still very. VERY much Beast Mastery, as the spec not only gained a massive 3%, it’s also present in every single group of the top 30 listed.

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+

It seems BM is just growing and growing. After everyone got the note that it’s currently the spec to play in dungeons, everyone switched over! The spec grew an insane 3% since the last time we checked in! This means over 12% of players in Mythic+ are playing this single Hunter spec! We haven’t seen a meta this dominated for quite a while now, so this latest round of buffs will definitely go down among the most impactful ones.

The other very popular specs didn’t get affected too much, as Frost DK drops 0.1%, Resto Sham 0.2%, and Retribution remains the exact same. Prot Paladin actually gained 0.2% and managed to move past Havoc, while Arcane and Vengeance dropped off quite a bit. The brunt of BM’s gains, however, came from its fellow Hunters, as players switched off to the dominant spec. Survival players are very loyal it seems, as their numbers remain the same, albeit down at 0.6%. Meanwhile, Marksmanship dropped basically half of its playerbase, losing 1.1%!

Not too much spec diversity was added to the very top keys, as we went from 9 to 10 specs present in 21s. Things are a bit better in 20ies, with 19 specs playing.

And here are the full spec numbers, including amount of runs.

Group Composition Popularity

It seems BM’s popularity didn’t come from the most popular group, as it remains stable at just under 9%, but the second most popular comp gains almost 1% at 8.1, with the Hunter included. Also, in case you were wondering, every single group of the 30 listed below has a Beast Mastery Hunter, and one of them even has two!

Resto Druids are climbing the group charts at least, as they replace Shamans in group No.3, but it is way down at 5.1%, almost identical to the following two compositions, featuring a Prot Paladin and then a Druid + Ret combo.

DPS Logs, by Warcraft Logs Points

The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing. This means that they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor. It is a much, much smaller factor, however. It grants only a few points for significantly faster completions compared to just any in-time finish. We’re also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity. This means that the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.

95th percentile DPS

Frost retakes the top spot from Arcane, and we finally see Beast Mastery climbing into the top 5! It gains a pretty big 6 spots, as it seems when everyone is playing a spec, its performance dramatically improves. Feral is the one that had to give up its slot, as it drops from 5th to 8th.

All Percentiles

We see the same story at the top here, but Havoc makes a move here, moving past Subtlety into 3rd. BM arrives at the same No.5 conclusion, but rises a bigger 8 spots.
