A major concern that players have shown so far is losing their character names that they have had since the original Classic WoW launch in 2019. To address this, Blizzard has stated it will dust off some old tech to prevent this from happening.
Realm Changes & Free Moves for Mists of Pandaria Classic
Thanks to a great idea by one of the original Classic engineers, we may have just stumbled on a nice solution to folks concerns around naming availability that should give everyone ample opportunity to preserve their names. We’ve a couple of things to test in the morning as it is dusting off some tech we haven’t used in a hot minute but if it goes smoothly we’ll release details asap.
We’re looking forward to hearing more on this matter, as many players have become attached to their characters’ names over the years, and losing them would be a real pain. There has been no update as of yet regarding what will happen to guilds, with players concerned about losing guild reputation and perks.
Is this “old tech” simply just connected realms, something we have seen on Modern WoW in the past? Will players retain their characters’ names with the server they came from (such as Icyveins-Faerlina), as they are displayed in battlegrounds? What are your thoughts and concerns about this upcoming mega-realm server merger?
