The great addon purge continues, and is getting into full gear in Midnight, or possibly even as soon as the pre-patch!
Big Changes Ahead
As reported by Wowhead, Blizzard explained a whole lot about the coming addon purge in Midnight. One of the big things mentioned in the group interview was the timing of combat-related addon removal. Blizzard explicitly stated that “any combat-related things” would not be moving forward with Midnight for addons. So this means even the first three raids in Season 1 of the expansion will be affected by this massive change. There will be a detailed blog coming for addon authors that will explain exactly what will be changing. The plan isn’t to just kill WeakAuras, but limit access to combat events in general.
The Timing

While the Midnight launch removal is already sooner than expected, the changes may come even sooner than that. Ion Hazzikostas mentioned that Manaforge: Omega nerfs will be coming in the pre-patch. This is coming so that the bosses are still a “fair and the appropriate level of challenge”. This makes it sound like the removal of combat addons is coming with the pre-patch already, and the Manaforge is being changed to accommodate those adjustments!
This does make a lot of sense, as Blizzard would want players to be able to start using their new tools before a new expansion hits with all its new features and looming raids. And so a pre-patch removal does seem likely.
What do you think about the earlier-than-expected timing and massive changes to raids?
