We have another very impressive and World First solos on our hands! This time we head back to patch 11.1 and Liberation of Undermine, where Stix Bunkjunker forced players to roll around some trash.
Rollin’ Solo
Durendil is back and is taking out the trash! If you’ll recall, the solo artist is very well known for his impressive and massively difficult World Firsts, from active-expansion-kills to massively difficult endbosses. This boss is the fourth in Mythic Liberation of Undermine, The War Within’s second raid. It was one of the hardest bosses in that slot of all time for its full-team World First, as Liquid can attest to. It took them 114 pulls to take down the 4/8 middle-of-the-raid boss, and they also had to commit all their Vantus Runes for the week on it, which is simply unheard of for a boss in this position.
When it comes to Durendil, well, he needed a bit less than the 114 the full 20-man Liquid team did. Around 80 pulls and the boss was down. The first 70 came before the new patch, with a 4% best. But more gear was clearly needed. The boss is almost the hardest in the raid to solo, as all others except Gallywix went down in 12.0.5.
The Fight
The main problem in this complex fight came down to a simple DPS check in the end. With the enrage getting very tight on Mythic, any survival-focused strategies just did not end up working. And so it was MAX DPS time. But let’s let Durendil himself explain.
| “Stix is a rather unique boss due to his enrage. Rolling rubbish (balls) deal a high amount of damage during the fight – so Blizzard had his enrage timer reduced in each difficulty: 10min20 in normal, 8min in heroic, and 6min30 in Mythic. This forces players to play the balls perfectly on high difficulies – but in solo you only have 1 ball, and you lose 20 seconds of dps if you use it to interrupt the Scrapmasters or soak bombs. I tried many strategies to survive the incoming damage – including one where I stayed on the ball while everything exploded, so I would take 75% less damage. But when I tried it, he just enraged and slapped me. This forced me to ignore the balls to meet the dps check, so I couldn’t soak bombs, or even interrupt the Scrapmaster’s cast – making survival far harder. I had to plan everything out and survive with a single defensive trinket instead of two. Not to mention the aggro issues since my pet despawned on every ball, and if he cast one of his two tank abilities on me I wiped. This boss has been a pain in every difficulty, but, like nearly all bosses is Undermine, he’s also been extremely fun all 3 times.” -Durendil |

Just Gally Mythic left to go in Liberation of Undermine, but there’s plenty more bosess to be soloed elsewhere!
