Final War Within and Legion Remix Spec and Group Popularity Rankings

Starym's Avatar by Starym

The end is nigh! Remix ended/ends today, and The War Within comes to an end with the Midnight pre-patch with the weekly reset. So what better time to check out just how popular each spec and group composition was in the final days?

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+ Retail

Beast Mastery, while still at the very top, had the biggest crash in the last few weeks. Players went for some experimentation or just got sick of the spec, as its popularity plummeted almost 4 full percent! Those players did not head to the 2nd most popular spec either, as Ret Paladins barely moved up, only gaining 0.1%. The top healer spec followed suit with the top DPS spec, but Resto Shaman didn’t drop quite as dramatically, only losing 0.9%. Havoc gained quite a bit, moving up two spots into 4th, while Frost DK was on the losing end, dropping 1.2%. The rest of BMs losses seem to have spread out pretty evenly otherwise, as no individual spec surged a giant amount.

Runs by key level

Spec variety increased quite a bit in the highest key, with around 6 new specs getting to finish a +22 since last we checked.

And here are the full numbers, including the amount of runs.

Group Composition Popularity

We have the opposite effect here for the No.1 slot than in the spec rankings. The most popular group only got more so, gaining 0.6% since last we checked, as Prot Warr, Resto Druid, Frost DK, Havoc, and BM remain the most played. The second group, however, crashed and burned, dropping a whopping 3.4%, as it seems Resto Shamans aren’t preferred in that comp anymore.

The Most Popular Specs in Legion Remix

Predictably, Havoc continued its drop in the last few weeks, losing another 3.5% and now “only” making up one-fifth of the runs! Ret dropped far less, only losing 0.2%, while Balance gained some of the Demon Hunter players, rising 0.5%. Unholy seems to have been the main DPS beneficiary of the purple drop, gaining 1.4%.

And here are the full numbers:

Group Composition Popularity

We go down to 18th place to find the first actual group. There, we find the DH + Pala combo taking over double Havoc, which is sitting right under it in 19th. Aside from double Balance, all other 2-player combinations of the top three classes make an appearance in the chart as well, with double Ret grabbing the final spot.
