We have another tale of ghoul immortality in the wrong spec! This time around, it’s the epic of Casketbender, who joins Rocktaker in the annals of ghoulmanity as one of the few permanent Frost DK companions!
Permanent Is a Strong Word…
Basically, it happened again! TaleOfDash ran into the same bug we’ve already talked about, as their ghoul became permanent on their Frost DK. The last time we saw this bug was very different, however. It was related to a very old character (5+ years) logging back in and having a permanent ghoul in a non-Unholy spec. This time it’s over in Legion Remix with a brand new character! The ghoul works the same as for Unholy, gaining stats and power through the levels. It remained at TaleOfDash’s side through relogs, loading screens, instance entrances, and portals.
Obviously, once this rare occurrence happens, it triggers a nurturing and protective instinct in the affected Death Knight, and a brand new “quest” opens up: keep the ghoul alive for as long as possible!
While the last time we saw this particular bug was related to character boosting, it seems it was a simple spec change via artifact selection that triggered it this time, as TaleOfDash did indeed start leveling as Unholy before switching to Frost, keeping the perma-ghoul in the process.
TaleOfDash attempted just that, but the permanent ghoul met an untimely end. Despite surviving many dungeons, the Maw of Souls proved fatal, as an overeager low-level Demon Hunter overpulled and wiped their group. Little did they know this wasn’t a simple wipe, but a goodbye to Casketbender, as the ghoul was no longer a permanent addition after that!
We also got word of what happened to the OG perma-ghoul in the thread as well! Psyduckdontgiveafuck came in and updated us on Rocktaker, as it seems a patch took him out when changing the Frost talent tree!
