With GDKPs banned on Anniversary Realms, many players were of the mindset that RMT and botting for gold would fall drastically, as the need for gold would decrease without GDKPs. This, however, does not seem to be the case as consumable costs are at an all time high:

With the costs of raiding ever increasing on Anniversary Realms, players are discussing how banning GDKPs has had little-to-no effect on the economy, and has seemingly made it worse than it was in 2019 Classic. The community seems to be divided on the topic, with many wishing for GDKPs to return as a means of redistributing wealth and additional ways to raid, while many seem to prefer them being removed. What Does the Future Hold?
This has several players concerned for the future of Anniversary Realms, as prices will continue to rise as players prepare for Naxxramas, the hardest raid in Vanilla WoW. Many players have also stated concerns about how this will affect the upcoming expansion TBC, as the world of Outland is much smaller than Azeroth. This has players concerned that the limited supply of materials currently seen on Anniversary Realms will only be worse once TBC has come around, as there will be less farming spots available.
Many speculate that this problem has been brought on by the “Mega Realms” Blizzard is using on Anniversary Realms, as these new realms allow tens-of-thousands of players to play on the same server at once. While these new realms still use laying, they seem to have very few layers available at one time, limiting the amount of resources available to farm.
We are interested in seeing if Blizzard will address this issue, helping players with the cost of raiding. Will we see additional layers added to Anniversary Realms? Will resources be increased across the world as a whole? Can GDKPs possibly be seeing a return? Perhaps we’ll be getting the WoW Token with TBC release, rather than WotLK? Much is up to speculation currently as the topic gains more traction within the community.
