Players have noticed something strange in this week’s second pre-expansion patch. It seems not only have Blizzard pulled the previous expansion gold reduction trigger too soon, they’ve also made that reduction a complete removal!
Blizzard, Where’s My Gold?!
First spotted by minimaxir, it seems phase 2 of the Midnight pre-patch bought more than the new login screen, class tuning, and QoL improvements. Well, took away more in this case. Gold-giving World Quests have had their rewards entirely removed! As you can see below, there are no rewards listed on the ma tooltip. The quests still give the standard basic World Quest reward of Resonance Crystals, Crests and Bloody Tokens (if in War Mode). However, the extra gold rewards they had have been removed.

Other gold sources may be impacted as well. Players are reporting not receiving any gold from the Skyriding purse rewards, as well as the Azj-Kahet Weaver faction bags. New expansion releases reduce gold gains from previous expansions, but this one’s a bit extreme. Especially considering there are still weeks to go until Midnight actually launches.
It’s still unclear whether this is a bug or intended. It could also just be a matter of this patch being a bit early ahead of Midnight’s launch. And while the loss of these World Quests may not seem like a very large issue, there is relatively little to do as we wait for the expansion launch, so any removed activity (or at least its rewards) hurts.
