Blizzard announced a major rework of players’ personal banks coming in patch 11.2: Ghosts of K’aresh. The feature brings the old system up to par with the new Warbank, but some players had concerns. Luckily, the community is always here to give us the real numbers, so we can compare properly!
More Storage, No Downsides
The bank update is just simply an upgrade to the old one. Despite removing Void Storage (previously used for transmog) and the Reagent tab, in the end, it all adds up to us having more space and being able to do whatever we want with that space. SpartanG01 calculated exactly that, as they went through the current bank capabilities in comparison to the new system.
The new slot number is very easy to get to, as all max-level characters get all 6 tabs, each with 98 slots for anything. That adds up to 588 spaces for any item type in the game in 11.2.
The old storage has some more numbers to take into account. With Void Storage at 160, the Reagent tab at 98, and the core bank going as high as 260, that adds up to 538 old slots, with some very large limitations on a lot of them.
And so we end up with 50 more slots overall in the new bank, and complete freedom to put anything anywhere. The flexibility extends even further, as you can use any tab for reagents and craft from there. The cost for purchasing the slots is also significantly lower, around 20,000 gold less – and it’s completely free for all max-level characters. And that means characters who didn’t fully purchase all slots in the current system too, as they’ll get a whole lot of free space!
The Conversion Process Concerns
Blizzard specifically pointed out that the first time players log in to their characters in 11.2 and interact with the bank may have potential issues. Their comments were related to players not immediately getting access to their items, as the process might take a little while.
However, players have an entirely different concern. With the recent items and gold lost to the Guild Bank cross-realm update, confidence in Blizzard’s conversion skills is very low. Players lost hundreds of thousands of gold and who knows how many items, with restoration being impossible. With that in mind, players are very concerned something similar might happen here.
But, as SpartanG01 explains, that situation is unlikely. Since there is more space, which is automatically unlocked in the new system, “overflow” items aren’t really possible. The hypothetical edge cases might be lower-level bank alts, but even they get tabs based on previously purchased bag slots, so that shouldn’t be an issue either. In relation to a “new” system somehow losing items, like the guild banks did, this isn’t actually new. This is just the Warbank, which already works, and doesn’t involve any of the processes that made the guild bank transfers fail.
However, players are still concerned that their Void Storage or Reagent tabs might get lost in the shuffle, and some are already transferring their items to the regular bags. Obviously, nothing is ever certain, so if you think you might lose some of your precious gear, you can do a little reshuffling before the patch as well.
