Ever since the launch of the Midnight Beta, Blizzard have been working on fixing the heavy lag affecting servers. There have been many theories and attempted fixes, with the most recent being fish-related. The theory went that some advanced NPC reactions to players getting close to them was affecting fish as well. And with a whole lot of fish in the world reacting to players getting near them… Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to have been the issue, as Blizzard fixed that behavior, but the lag persists.
More fixes are being worked on, so we’ll see if a solution can be found soon.
Sadly, the Fish might have been a red herring after all. We did see some overall better perf for the first hour or so after restarts but memory usage has continued to creep up as more players and instances/copies of zones spun up so we definitely haven’t found our silver bullet here.
We have a few code hotfixes in test but we’ll need to keep chipping away at this and maybe run some more experiments to try to narrow down what’s happening here.
Thanks for sticking with us in the meantime! We really appreciate all the testing and feedback!
