The latest WoW event is having some pretty serious scaling issues, as those duos sure are dastardly. The event is meant to equalize player power as it scales everything to item level 619. That means higher power players get scaled down, and lower ones up. This actually includes very old and low ilvl gear like legendaries, giving the event a lot more buildcraft potential. However, it seems the scaling sometimes misses the mark. By 618.

A whole lot of players have been reporting a bug that’s causing the event to scale down their gear quite a bit. And by quite a bit, I mean item level 1 (one). The 
Play Nice, Play Fair buff may say it’s getting your gear to 619 in the tooltip outside the game, but for some players, it very clearly states it’s going down to 1. At least it’s honest!
Unfortunately, this isn’t a light matter either, as it’s very much not just a tooltip issue. The items offer 1 armor and nothing else. No primary stats, no secondary, nothing. At least weapons still have some damage, even if it is 1-2! The usual fixes for this type of thing aren’t working either, as relogging, changing spec, or even trying to play it on an alt are not fixing the issue for affected players.
A Possible Fix
Some very clever players were trying everything and may have found the culprit. The bug may be related to equipped item level 1 gear, like the cosmetic shirts and tabards. As in, the system may be trying to scale you down to your lowest item level. It also seems the issue may stem from a fix Blizzard tried to apply to Legendary item upscaling, which ended up causing this. Either way, if you’re affected by the bug and have one of those on, why not try removing them.
The event is off to a rocky start, from the timegating to some truly crazy item power scaling, and now this. Hopefully, the fixes arrive soon and we get to enjoy the mode normally.
