The pre-patch woes continue for some players, as they’re stuck unable to upgrade their gear! It seems the squish may have broken the upgrade system. Quite a few players are getting an error when trying to get some more of that squished item level goodness.
“Not Enough Currency”
It seems inflation and/or tariffs have hit Crests and Valorstones, without the vendors marking the price increase! Players are faced with the “You do not have enough currency to cast this spell” error when trying to upgrade items, while clearly having enough. AgreeingAndy commented on the issue first, but many players added their own upgrade plight in the comments.

A Possible Workaround
Considering the pre-patch is still well over a month away, players will still want to upgrade their gear, so this isn’t exactly a trivial matter. There may be a workaround for the issue, as one player managed to recover from the seeming lack of funds. The wonderfully named __SARCASTROPHE__ managed to unstuck the vendors by purchasing a Crest downgrade pack (
Satchel of Carved Ethereal Crests or similar). So if you’re faced with the issue, you may want to burn 45 Crests for a chance to get it resolved. Or just wait a while, as this should be an issue Blizzard resolve relatively quickly.
Hopefully, the solution works for you if you have this issue as well. Regardless of the bug, have you been/will you be upgrading your gear during the pre-patch? Or are you just waiting for Midnight?
