Solo Domination: Legion Remix Mythic+ Group and Spec Popularity

Starym's Avatar by Starym

Remix is in full swing, with Phase 2 this week. So it’s time to check out what’s being played in the dungeons! We’ve already seen the insane highs players are getting to, with +113s completed. But what’s the majority of players playing as? The numbers are VERY different from the usual charts, and not only in terms of which specs are on top, as the group popularity chart in particular is looking pretty crazy. Let’s dive in.

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+

We’re starting with the standard most-played specs for the past week, and it’s a very dark purple affair. The top 4 specs are dramatically ahead of everything else, with the top 3 alone making up over 40% of the runs! The popularity charts are pretty specific in Legion Remix, as solo runs make up a large portion of the overall number, and so have a lot of influence on the most popular specs.

The Demon Hunters are dominating and then some, with the DPS one getting the better of the tank, mostly based on solo runs. Guardian is next up and very close to the top 2, as all three hover around 13% of the total runs, while the only other spec even remotely competing with it is Prot Paladin, and it’s a bit lower, down at 12%. The next 4 specs are each less than half of the top 4, coming in at 4-6%, and after that it’s a freefall with no spec breaking 2%, and getting below 1% after No.17.

And here are the exact numbers, with total runs completed:

Group Composition Popularity

As we can see, this chart is very different from the usual one. The top 8 group “compositions” are solo runs! Havoc is way ahead at the top, with Guardian the only one really close to it, but still 1.5% off the DH’s 11% dominance. Vengeance, Prot Pala, and Blood are very close together and still putting up a solid 7% each. Then we’re down to 3-4% for the rest of the soloers, and the top actual group composition sits at 2-8% of the total runs! It’s a doozy of a comp as well, with no fewer than three Demon Hunters, one Havoc and two Venegance, with a Guardian Druid and Prot Pala to boot! This quad tank setup seems to be the go-to, as the next few groups replicate it, just with different tanks joining the Havoc DH.

We still haven’t gotten the new DPS spec buffs Blizzard promised, which could break up the tank dominance.
