It’s very much Beast Mastery’s week here in its post-tuning heyday! The spec gains a giant amount of ground, moving into the top 3 and taking up residence in the top two group compositions! Resto Shaman almost takes over the whole thing as it inches up to Frost DK for that most-played-spec title, so let’s dive in.

The Data
The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.
The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+
We might just have a healer as the most popular spec of the season real soon, as Resto Shaman moves another 0.1% up and is only 0.1% away from Frost DK! Right after the stable top two, we see a major shift, but an expected one: Beast Mastery has arrived. Gaining an insane 3.2% of the total Mythic+ population over the past week, the buff really did the spec a whole lot of good! We haven’t quite seen the performance results in the logs yet, but with more and more players diving in, we should during this reset.
Protection also keeps rising as the top tank and healer are doing really well, another 0.3% up, while Retribution drops 0.2. We then see a few specs drop around 0.2% each, with Vengeance losing the most at 0.4, as that big BM gain has to come from somewhere.
We have the +20s slightly widening their spec variety, with three new ones added for 23 total. There’s also just one +21, untied at that.
And here are the full numbers, including the total amount of runs.
Group Composition Popularity
We have a giant shakeup in the top group compositions, as we have a brand new top two, and the No.1 is way ahead. The change incorporates Beast Mastery’s newfound power into the meta, as it replaces Marksmanship and joins Prot Warr, Rest Shaman, Frost DK, and Ret in the No.1 group, which then also gains 0.5% and claims a total of 8% of all groups. The new Hunter also makes its way to the second most played comp, which switches out Retribution for Havoc, and gains 0.4%. In No.3, we see the old No.2, with no new additions, remaining at the same 4.9%. We have to go down to No.5 to see the first non-Resto-Shaman healer comp, and No.6 for the first non-Prot-Warrior, both at 4.1%.
