Midnight’s Stat Squish Turns Old WoW Items Practically Useless

One thing players always knew was coming was WoW’s latest stat squish. It’s far from the first time the game and the community have gone through this, and it always ends up making older items and interactions feel off. But after several rounds of stat squishes, Midnight has gone a step further and straight-up broken some items.

Gone Reduced to Atoms

After players spent years sitting at millions of health and pumping out billions of damage during fights, everything is going back down once again. That usually doesn’t hit newer items too hard, but what about gear from Vanilla? Or The Burning Crusade?

It seems that Blizzard hasn’t taken that into account, or possibly doesn’t really care this time around. This isn’t the only example, as older items like Major Healing Potion iconMajor Healing Potion now only heals for under 5HP.

A Problem for a Later Day

While this may not really feel like a pressing issue on the surface, it feels like this is a creeping problem that will continue to plague WoW every time there is a stat squish. This feels like a temporary solution, rather than a fix to the consistently rising ilvl, damage, and health that every expansion brings.

Plus, even if it doesn’t impact most of the playerbase, it’s still incredibly strange to watch older items get scaled down until they’re basically useless, or outright non-functional in retail. It just highlights that this approach to keeping numbers low isn’t holding up in the long run.
