The tuning pass has had a week to percolate and it’s time to check out the results for the dungeons! Things are actually pretty similar to the raid situation, but there’s a few outliers. Havoc’s popularity is dropping like a stone, Brewmasters are having a great time, Destro’s riding high, and there’s a lot of new group compositions on top!
Raid Spec Popularity and DPS Logs
The Data
The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.
The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+ Retail
The story is much the same as in raids, especially for the new spec in town. Devourers keep rising in popularity, gaining 1.4% and two spots since last we checked in, putting them up in 2nd place. Frost Mage retains its crown, breathing a huge sigh of relief after Blizzard declared no new tuning until the 17th. It did lose almost exactly as much as Devourer gained, however, down 1.5%. Resto Druid is the most stable, only dropping 0.1%, while Prot Paladins are down 0.7, but both specs only drop the 1 spot Devourer took. Unholy also got a big boost recently, moving 4 spots up into 6th, with a 0.4% gain. Retribution is riding high once again, as the big red button in the Discord remains un-pressed. The spec gains 0.9% and moves 7 spots up into 5th.
Brewmaster is the least expected big mover here, as it matches Devourer’s rise and gains 1.4%, moving a huge 8 spots up. The big, big loser in the past few weeks is definitely Havoc, which makes a lot of sense. The once only Demon Hunter DPS spec is down bad, dropping another 8 spots out of its already very low 16th. Arms, Assassination, and Fire remain at the bottom, still trying to break that 0.5% milestone.
Runs by key level
No 25s were attempted this past week, and we didn’t see a timed 24 either, as players stop pushing as hard.

And here are the full numbers, including the amount of runs.
Group Composition Popularity
The top group composition changed dramatically over the past few weeks. Devourer and Unholy took over the most played combo, as Fury and Survival dropped off massively. The Warrior went from the No.1 group to No.7, and the Hunter down to No.9. The top group is now Prot Pala, Rest Druid, Frost Mage, Devourer and Unholy. Destruction Warlock also made a name for itself, slotting right into group No.2, taking Unholy’s spot. In 3rd we see the rising Brewmaster take over for Prot Pala, and 4 sees Retribution make an appearance.
Mythic+ DPS Logs
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing. This means that they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor. It is a much, much smaller factor, however. It grants only a few points for significantly faster completions compared to just any in-time finish. We’re also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity. This means that the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
95th percentile DPS
Devourer is devouring the rankings in the dungeons as well as the raids, but it hasn’t quite managed to grab the No.1 spot here yet. Destruction is the big mover here after the tuning pass, moving from the lower reaches straight to the top position. The new DH took down Unholy for 2nd, and Survival is still holding its own in 4th. Frost Mage is slowly moving up as well, and it’s looking like we’re going to have a very interesting battle for the top spots once the new season starts. Havoc dropped off the face of the earth in the damage department as well, losing 7 spots to end up in 15th. Beast Mastery is really taking a beating here and in the raid, as it drops to the very last spot after its TWW Season 3 dominance.
All Percentiles
The generalist chart does see the new spec taking over, but just barely. Havoc is also doing a lot better here, actually managing to rise up a spot. Windwalkers are also on the rise, making a massive 8-spot shift into 8th. This low top 10 positioning has worked out well for the spec in the past, so let’s see if it manages to keep it. Retribution remains very stable in 9th, and we see Fury at the end of the top 10, dropping quite a few spots since the tuning.
Very High Key Raw DPS Numbers
Note: We’re also taking a look at the raw damage numbers from Mythicstats. They take the top runs for extremely high keys (+12-23) from WarcraftLogs and list the overall DPS for the dungeon, which includes non-combat time as well. They’re ranked by the average DPS numbers, with the very top of the top shown next to it.
The very top keys actually reflect the generalist chart above more than the high percentiles one, as Devourer sits on top. Frost Mage is doing a bit worse, but still solid, and Devastation is holding on better as well.
