Post-Tuning Changes: Feral Moving Up, Guardian Down – Most Popular and Best-Performing Mythic+ Specs in 12.0.7

Starym's Avatar by Starym

We have the full set of data for the first post-tuning week! The big winner in the dungeons is Feral, mirroring Balance’s gains in the raids. Staying on the Druid train, the No.1 spec in Myhic+ is still Guardian, but it’s beginning to lose some players, but retains a huge lead. Let’s dive in to all the stats.

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+

Guardian is fallible! While the tank is still very much on top and very much has a big lead, we do see a drop in players this past reset. And it’s not an insignificant one either, as the Druid is down 0.5% to 8.7. Retribution remains exactly as popular as before, while Beast Mastery and Unholy drop a bit. Resto Shamans have reclaimed the top healer spot from Mistweavers, as the blue spec gains 0.3% and the green one drops 0.5. And while Frost Mage and Demonology both drop down a little, the Warlock comes out on top this time around. The bottom 3 remain very much the same.

Runs by Key Level

And here are the full numbers, including the amount of runs.

Group Composition Popularity

Note: The below chart shows the percentage of group popularity in relation to the top 30 compositions. This means that, for example, the top group says it’s 30% of the compositions, but that’s just 30% of the top 30. In reality, it’s just 2% of all groups played. You can see the smaller 2% number if you hover over the group line in the chart on the Raider.IO page.

While you’d think this late in the season, players would be experimenting around with group compositions a bit, the top group very much disproves that. Druid, Mistweaver, Unholy, Devourer, and Augmentation push it up a notch, now comprising a full 30% of the top 30 groups, a giant 6% increase. The 2nd most popular group is also picking up steam, but just a small amount, moving around 1.5% up. Meanwhile, the rest of the top 30 groups are dropping down lower and lower to accommodate the No.1 meta comp.

Mythic+ DPS Logs

The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing. This means that they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor. It is a much, much smaller factor, however. It grants only a few points for significantly faster completions compared to just any in-time finish. We’re also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity. This means that the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.

95th percentile DPS

Feral is rising after its tuning changes, gaining a solid three spots to finish up in 5th place. Fury also rises a couple of spots, almost making it into the top 10. The rest remain the same as last time we checked. And while Balance is tearing it up in the raids after its buff, it only manages to move one spot out of the bottom 3, dropping Frost DK down.

All Percentiles

Feral is on the move here too, gaining even more spots but not making it quite as high, landing in 8th place after a 5-spot leap.

Very High Key Raw DPS Numbers

Note: We’re also taking a look at the raw damage numbers from Mythicstats. They take the top runs for extremely high keys (+16-25) from WarcraftLogs and list the overall DPS for the dungeon, which includes non-combat time as well. They’re ranked by the average DPS numbers, with the very top of the top shown next to it.

Feral moves quite a bit slower here, as it was already doing quite well before the tuning. It gains one spot from when we last checked, moving past Outlaw into 5th.
