The bug that’s been stealing crests from players, most notably 
Myth Dawncrest, when recrafting has finally been fixed! Many players were affected by this bug where after recrafting an item (usually a weapon), it would simply revert back to its previous item level. The crests and other materials (and gold) were not returned, however. Unfortunately, Blizzard aren’t quite sure if they can find and restore affected players’ crests, but are working to do so.

We’ve been working on it since it first started happening, and it was due to a very rare (and hard to reproduce) bug. Last night, we fixed the bug so that this should not happen again for anyone.
We’re now moving on to determining what we can do, if anything, to identify affected players and provide some sort of restoration. We do not have any answers to that question, but we’re hopeful about it.
