Retribution’s Comeback, Healers Slipping, 5-Mans Gone: Retail and Remix Spec and Group Popularity, Week 15

Starym's Avatar by Starym

We have an interesting week late in the season here, as both retail and remix have some movement. Over in the regular season we see healers dropping off quite a bit, as players shift towards DPS specs. And speaking of DPS, Retribution is making a big comeback

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+ Retail

It’s late in the season, and it seems players are gravitating towards the all-time most popular spec! While Retribution took a back seat to several specs this season, it seems it’s making a comeback at the end. The Paladin has been climbing steadily for a while now, but it’s leaped up quite a bit in this past week. We see a 0.3% surge for the pink spec, moving two spots up into second and getting some solid distance from the now third-place Frost DK. Of course, no one is coming close to Beast Mastery this season anymore, as it remains far ahead of everyone else, sitting at the exact same 12.1% as last week. The DK lost the same 0.3% the Paladin gained, but we see a bigger drop right behind it, as Resto Shaman dropped 0.5%, as healers are down 1.1% overall, with players focusing more on the DPS specs late in the season.

Runs by key level

And here are the full numbers, including the amount of runs.

Group Composition Popularity

We see a big change at the top of the group chart, which explains the drop in Resto Shamans! Druids have taken over the healing game in the most played composition, as last week’s No.2 jumps a whopping 0.8% into first place. Shamans still hold second and third spots, with the third group sporting a Retribution Paladin over a Havoc DH.

The Most Popular Specs in Legion Remix

It’s time to play “how much has Havoc gained this week” over in Remix! And the answer is… – 1.7%! That’s right, the top spec in Remix has lost some ground. In regular season charts, that 1.7% would be a significant chunk of a spec’s popularity, but for Havoc in Remix, it just means it still has slightly over a full quarter of all the played runs, landing at 25.6%. Retribution also dropped a bit, while Unholy gained some ground and is neck-and-neck with Guardian for that 5th spot.

And here are the full numbers:

Group Composition Popularity

While I declared last week to be the death of 5-mans in Remix, this one cements it and then some. We have exactly ONE full group in the chart at all, and it’s all the way at the bottom! It’s also all either solo or duo for the rest of the spots, with Havoc leading the way and the rest of the chart looking pretty much like the spec popularity until we get to No.12. There, we find our first duo group, comprised of, you guessed it, two Havocs! The next duo is close by, mixing things up by adding the second most-played spec to the Demon Hunter. And that lone 5-man? Just the three most played specs with three of Havoc.
