Many players go all out when it comes to twinks and level locks, trying to get some crazy gear going. Blizzard have foiled these plans several times with various Timewalking changes to how item levels and scaling work. However, one player accidentally came into a truly insane item level for a low level character purely by accident.
A Level 15 With Item Level 206 Gear
Akshaison started playing their Evoker recently and was just destroying everything around them. Even more than you’d expect for low level characters. As it turns out, all their starting gear was a truly impressive item level 206, where their fellow players had ilvl 19! For comparison, 206 is basically level 60 gear.
The actual average item level came out to 149, due to some gear not being from the starter set and dragging it down. The thread was full of “lock your level NOW” advice, as that item level in the 15 bracket would simply destroy everything in its path, both in PvP and Timewalking. Luckily, the first attempt to dominate in PvP was met with a long queue and akshaison just let it go. This isn’t the only player that this happened to, as the WoW Reddit soon found out what had happened. Apparently, Dracthyr created during Dragonflight and never touched since then retain their item level from before the squish.
So if you run across some crazy Evoker destroying everything in your Timewalking dungeon, it’s probably one of these!
