The Death of 5-Mans in Legion! Retail and Remix Spec and Group Popularity, Week 13/14

Starym's Avatar by Starym

Another week in Mythic+ for retail and Remix, and the population is concentrated at the top even more. We see Beast Mastery continue to gain traction in retail, and Havoc move even further up in Remix, with 5-man groups dropping off massively in the limited time event.

Raid DPS Logs, Week 13

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+ Retail

Beast Mastery’s player gain is not slowing down, as the Hunter widens its lead over the rest of the pack, going up 0.2% to 12.1. It seems to have grabbed that 0.2% straight from No.2 and 3, as Frost DK and Resto Shaman are both down 0.1, and the next four specs are sitting still. Fury is also on the rise, gaining the same 0.2% down in 9th, just behind Resto Druid’s 0.1% bump. Fire dips down into the bottom 3, but the specs at the bottom are also holding very firm at around 0.2%.

Runs by key level

And here are the full numbers, including the amount of runs.

Group Composition Popularity

The top group is down a bit, dropping around 0.2% at 9.3, while the No.2 and 3 remain stable.

DPS Logs

All Percentiles

Over in the logs themselves, we see Beast Mastery bounce back, taking 3rd away from Arcane to nullify last week’s movement. Unholy makes a move in the final top 10 spot, gaining two as Balance drops off quite a bit, three spots down into 14th.

The Most Popular Specs in Legion Remix

Over in the limited-time event, things are getting even more lopsided. Havoc is running amok and gains another 0.7% of the total population, as everyone’s switching to the top spec on alts. But it’s not the only top spec gaining traction, as Retribution is also rising, only 0.2%, however. The two top Druids take a collective 1% hit, however, as Guardian drops below Unholy in the process, which moves 0.3% up. Prot Palas are also down quite a bit, as Fury takes aim at the tank. Meanwhile, in the bottom 3, we see Rogues take up the final two spots, with Subtlety dropping under Fire, as all three over around 0.2%.

And here are the full numbers:

Group Composition Popularity

We’ve lost all semblance of group play in Remix, as we have to go down to No.17 to find the first full group, and down to 13 for the first 2-player composition. Havoc gains another 2% of the pie at the very top, while the rest remain pretty stable. The duo comp of the two most popular specs moves up a spot, getting chased down by double Havoc. So we have two duos before we see even one full group, with said 17th spot 5-man consisting of three Havocs, Balance, and Retribution.
