With the first week in a long time without any upcoming tuning behind us, it’s time to check out where the meta has settled, both in terms of spec and group popularity, and performance! Week 3 of the season brings some stability to Mythic+ at last, with not only fewer dungeon changes, but also no class tuning this coming reset. It makes sense with patch 12.0.5 coming the following week, which will bring bigger class changes.
The Data
The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this reset and not on the season as a whole.
The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+
One of the most popular specs of all time is back on top here at the start of Midnight! Retribution takes up 7.4% of all specs this week and is solidly in the lead. Frost Mage isn’t that far off, however, sitting at 7.1%, followed by the most popular tank, which is still Brewmaster, even after the nerfs and buffs to other tanks. The third DPS spec comes in at No.4, with Demonology sitting at 6.2%, and the top healer closing out the top 5, with an almost identical 6.1%. We then have three more DPS specs, followed by two tanks and healers. It also seems only Frost is doing well for the Mages, as not only is Arcane very, very low in the chart, Fire is at the literal bottom, joined by Outlaw and Frost DK.
Augmentation, despite being the top spec in the logs by far, is only down in 18th place with 2% of players giving it a go.
Runs by key level
We’re already at a +21 top run here in week 3 of the season, but with only a few runs and only featuring 6 specs. The most popular tank and healer are joined by Unholy, Demonology, Augmentation, and Devourer.
And here are the full numbers, including the amount of runs.
Group Composition Popularity
The top group is exactly 1% ahead of the 2nd, sporting the top tank and healer, as well as Unholy, Frost Mage, and Demonology, at 7.6%. Augmentation replaces Frost in the 2nd comp, and the 3rd, which is almost as popular, brings a Retribution Pala instead.
Mythic+ DPS Logs
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing. This means that they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor. It is a much, much smaller factor, however. It grants only a few points for significantly faster completions compared to just any in-time finish. We’re also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity. This means that the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
95th percentile DPS
While the top two have been the same since the start of the season, with Augmentation dominating, Demonology has been doing better and better, climbing into 3rd from around the bottom of the top 10. Devourer remains strong in 4th, with Assassination and Arms moving up. Shadow is also doing a lot better after its buffs, while Frost Mage sits down in 9th. Feral is doing solid, closing out the top 10, just ahead of the most popular spec, Retribution. As one Evoker rises, however, the other must fall it seems, as we see Devastation at the very bottom, joined by Destruction. Frost DK has the unfortunate position of being in the bottom 3 in both performance and popularity.
All Percentiles
The all percentiles chart looks the same until we get to No.5, where Frost Mage is doing a lot better. Elemental also held on to its early-season performance better here, keeping Arms and Assassination at bay. Subtlety is significantly higher here, along with Retribution, as both kick Shadow out of the top 10.
Very High Key Raw DPS Numbers
Note: We’re also taking a look at the raw damage numbers from Mythicstats. They take the top runs for extremely high keys (+13-21) from WarcraftLogs and list the overall DPS for the dungeon, which includes non-combat time as well. They’re ranked by the average DPS numbers, with the very top of the top shown next to it.
Demo and Unholy remain on top in the damage charts, with the Warlock pulling away from the DK. Augmentation moves up significantly from its early-season spot at the bottom of the top 10, as Fury drops off a cliff this week. Feral is also doing a lot better since the start of the season, as is Assassination, which gains another 7 spots this week.
