The Popular Kids Gather Even More Players, New Group Pushes Up: Mythic+ Spec and Composition Popularity

Things are still very much settling in here in week 3/4 of Season 3, as we see the top specs take over even more of the playerbase! We also have a new No.2 group composition emerging. Warriors are taking over from Vengeance, and there’s even a non-Shaman healer sighting among the top groups!

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+

Frost DK is moving out even further ahead, with only Resto Shaman being able to keep up. Both specs gain anther 0.2% of the entire playerbase. Retribution is also gaining, but only half as much, and the next DPS spec follows suit, with Havoc also getting more and more popular. The most popular tank is keeping up with the top two as the Warrior is also 0.2% up, while the next tank, Paladin, stays stable, and Vengeance gains 0.1%. The bottom specs remain stable, as Augmentation manages to stay above 0.0%! Barely.

We did not get a new highest key here, but the 19s got 4 new specs playing, with Unholy, Elemental Feral, and Beast Mastery making the cut. That’s 22 specs represented in the highest key played! Meanwhile, we see 26 present in 18s.

And here is the full population breakdown, with the number of runs included as well.

Group Composition Popularity

The top group composition seems to have hit its ceiling, for now at least, as it remains at 6.8%. We then immediately see where Protection Warrior got its boost, as it’s taken over the No.2 group as well, as the tank Demon Hunter gets swapped out for a DPS one, dropping Marksmanship instead. Vengeance does make an appearance in group No.3, however, and we actually see a non-Resto Shaman healer in No.4, although that’s the last non-blue healer sighting all the way down to number 11.
