There Is A Simple Way To Avoid Combat While Fishing In Midnight

Fishing is mostly seen as a fun side activity in World of Warcraft, one that should be relaxing. However, in Midnight, the Blood Hunter event can quickly interrupt that calm moment when a hostile spirit appears and forces you into combat.

This also comes up in a recent Reddit thread where players started sharing a few surprising ways to prevent the spawn. Some players noticed that sitting while fishing appears to stop the Blood Hunter from appearing entirely.

If you sit down while fishing it does not spawn. So in the spirit of fishing relaxing does actually make it easier.

According to players already using the trick, the Blood Hunter Spirit simply never shows up as long as the character is sitting during the fishing cast. The interaction itself is not entirely new though, as sitting while fishing has been possible long before WoW Midnight.

Why Sitting May Prevent The Spawn

The current theory is that the Blood Hunter event relies on the game casting a spell on the player when the fish is caught. If the character is sitting, that spell fails with the message:

You must be standing to do that.

Because the spell never goes through, the spawn event may never trigger either.

This looks more like a technical interaction than an intended mechanic, which means Blizzard could change it at any time.

Other Ways To Avoid Blood Hunters

Sitting is not the only workaround players have found. There are a couple of other tricks that can help you avoid the fight.

Amani Angler’s Ward

  • Prevents Blood Hunter spawns
  • Buff lasts around 30 minutes
  • The Recipe: Amani Angler's Ward iconRecipe: Amani Angler’s Ward can drop from treasure chests or cargo pools

For players planning a longer fishing session, this is currently the most reliable option.

Cancel The Catch Before Looting

Another trick some players like to use is to cancel fishing or move slightly right as the hostile fish gets hooked.

If you do it quickly enough, the fish may end up being mailed to you later instead of triggering the combat event. It does not work every time, but many players say it can help to skip the fight.

In any case, for now, sitting while fishing appears to be an easy workaround, though it remains to be seen if Blizzard decides to fix the interaction.
