We’re back with a slightly late entry in our Mythic+ spec popularity series. The first week of the new patch is behind us, so we get to see the results the new belt has had on spec popularity in the dungeons! We’ll be taking a look at the actual log data tomorrow, but for now, let’s see what’s being played.
The Data
The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.
The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+
The absolutely dominant spec has been taken down a peg. Retribution is still very much in first place, but loses a solid 0.4% chunk of its popularity. The top tank and healers remain exactly the same, and the second-favorite healer drops 0.1%. The non-Paladin DPS specs shuffle around a bit, with Arcane gaining slightly and Balance moving past Marksmanship, which drops 0.2%. Unholy gains 0.2%, while Havoc drops a solid 0.3, landing behind the second Paladin on the list, the tank. Overall. this puts Paladins and Demon Hunters way above the rest of the classes.
It seems we didn’t have any successfully timed +22s this past week, but at least a few more specs dared attempt the highest key on live servers so far! The spec variety is also drastically increasing in the really high keys, despite the top composition still being extremely dominant in 15+.
And here’s a look at the exact numbers for the specs, including run numbers for each, which are pretty solidly down compared to last week. Retribution alone has around 60,000 fewer runs this week, with Vengeance and Disc 40k less.
Group Composition Popularity
The dominant Vengeance/Disc/Unholy/Balance/Arcane group is tearing it up even more. It’s gained another huge 3% of all runs since last week! The second most popular spec, featuring Retribution instead of Unholy, remained about the same at 9.9%, same with the third at 4.6%. That means all the top comp gains came from less-played groups, which is always a shame. In any case, the belt did not manage to disrupt the dungeon meta in the slightest, seemingly only empowering the top specs.
