One of the most well-known World of Warcraft private servers appears to be coming to an end. According to newly surfaced court documents, Blizzard have secured a major legal victory, forcing Turtle WoW and its operators to cease and desist.
Turtle WoW Shutdown
Following the Copyright infringement lawsuit filed in August 2025, the defendants are ordered to immediately and permanently stop:
- Operating or maintaining private servers, including Turtle WoW
- Developing or distributing modified or “remastered” clients
- Supporting or promoting any emulated versions of Blizzard games
- Creating or assisting any “successor” projects
Turtle WoW has long been one of the most prominent fan-run servers, especially among players looking for a “classic+” style experience. However, this ruling effectively blocks any attempts to revive Turtle WoW’s reappearance in any form.
Is this Blizzard clearing the path for a rumoured Classic+ announcement—or simply just another step in protecting their IP?
