Void Elf Demon Hunters Are Coming… But Will It Break Faction Balance?

MarcelianOnline had the chance to talk to Lead Combat Systems Designer Jade Martin and Associate Game Director Paul Kubit about Midnight at gamescom 2025 and here are the highlights!

  • The new level cap in Midnight is 90.
  • There will be 10 new talent points that you’ll gain when leveling from 81-90. These will be split across the 3 existing trees, as we discussed here.
  • Apex Talents are unique multi-talent nodes with 4 points to put in. The first and fourth rank will be the most impactful ones.
  • Hero talents will receive 1 more path in Midnight.
  • Devourer has two playstyles: mid-range caster DPS and hybrid ranged/melee.
  • They’re adding Demon Hunters to Void Elves because it makes sense to the story. However, they’re aware this creates faction imbalance that they hope to alleviate with other race/class combos during the Worldsoul Saga.
  • Void Elf Demon Hunters will be available on live servers starting in the Midnight pre-patch after players complete a short intro quest. We expect the pre-patch to launch in Winter 2025, according to the 2025 roadmap.
  • Nightborne Demon Hunters are not planned for now.
  • When you switch to the Devourer spec, all your abilities are themed after the void, there are no green/fel spells.
  • Devourer DHs have access to Void Ray, which is essentially Eye Beam iconEye Beam, with a 25-yard range.
  • There will be a difficulty increase going from the Voidspire to the March of Quel’Danas raid that opens a few weeks after the Voidspire has been unlocked. The single boss within the Dreamrift will be somewhere in the middle. All 3 raids are part of the same tier.
  • They want to make tanking/healing more approachable through encounter design in Midnight.
  • The necessity to use WeakAuras to play certain specs like Outlaw Rogue is a problem from a combat design standpoint that they need to resolve.
