Why Mythic+ Players Are Abandoning Remix Before Week 15 Hits

The thirteenth week of Mythic+ in this season is over, and Nightstalker314 is taking a look at the weekly data provided by Raider.IO . Overall activity in Retail dropped by 18.32%. In Remix, the drop was much steeper at 36.57%. In both cases, Chinese servers saw a more pronounced decline. Players are increasingly less focused on regular rewards and progression. Capstone achievements and cosmetics are the remaining draw for M+ players. So let’s look at the details.

Weekly Total Run Performance Compared To Other Seasons

Compared to last week, we see a drop-off of 18.32% globally. With 16.17% in the four regular regions, we get close to the regular long-term decline of other seasons. On the Chinese servers, the numbers fell by 20.76%. This downward trend has been consistent across previous seasons. And for now, TWW S3 is on track with DF S4’s pattern. Both times, Retail faced competition from Remix. But once Remix has all of its content unlocked in week 15, we might see an even larger shift back toward Retail, since you can transfer Remix characters at any time.

The regional split has been leveling out a bit lately. Chinese players made a delayed shift towards Remix. They also did not rebound as quickly once Turbo Boost was fully unlocked. For the entire season so far, their region has had a share of 46.57% and is currently hovering around that value week by week.

M+ activity in Remix definitely collapsed this week. -36.57% overall and -41.36% on the Chinese servers. Within the next two weeks, we will only get one new dungeon. It’d be odd if players could already unlock the portal for Seat of the Triumvirate ahead of Midnight Season 1. It is to be expected that M+ on Remix will turn into a complete niche for high-end keys and fast power grinds. The Cloak and Title have become increasingly trivial over time.

Total Runs Across All S3 Dungeons

The dungeon spread narrowed again this week. In week 14, we might see a shift towards quick dungeons close to the capital. Players are rushing to complete dungeon quest as quickly as possible. The order also barely changed, except for ranks 5 and 6 trading places. The success rate remained high at 87.64%. The slight drop-off of 0.42 percentage points results from less activity in easy farm keys.

Eco-Dome (92.68%) was once again leading with a decent gap. Gambit (91.97%), Streets of Wonder (90.48%), and Halls (88.71%) followed as usual. The Dawnbreaker (85.76%) was just ahead of Priory (85.62%). The latter usually sees a better rate when Tyrannical is the first affix from level 7 to 9. Floodgate (83.54%) was comfortably above 80% while Ara-Kara (79.68%) once again dropped below this threshold. The Pulsar affix is especially punishing in high-mobility encounters.

Split Across All S3 Key Levels

83.50% of all keys were completed at key level 10 or higher. 21.11% on key level 10 alone. But key level 12 was still the main draw this week. With 28.73% of all keys at level 12 and 56.97% in level 12 and above, the focus remains on high-level keys. High-end progression has slowed down noticeably. Total run numbers were still increasing for levels 20 to 22, but the rate is decreasing week by week. In the MDI, we have seen new records set at +23 and +24. But so far, players have not timed them on the live servers. The season has around 10 weeks left.

The overall success rate barely changed from week to week. The major impact was from high-end keys, for example, -0.74 percentage points on level 12. Most players have finished gearing and are now pushing with a higher tolerance for depletion. The Pulsar affix was an overall benefit for the low-level keys. This week, changes to the other 3 affixes showed up in the Beta build. While Ascendant and Voidbound get easier to deal with through longer cast times, Devour also applies a movement speed debuff. Having to dispel or heal through it every time is a pain for certain specs.

Legion Remix Dungeon Split

The overall spread hasn’t changed much. Cathedral, despite being disliked in the original Legion seasons, proved to be a rather popular and quick dungeon. Arcway remained the most popular farm dungeon with Cathedral and Neltharion’s Lair behind. The others barely changed. Court of Stars and Vault of the Wardens cement their role as reminders for less RP and travel in M+.

Legion Remix Key Level Split

For a brief period, players were timing keys well beyond level 200. This seems to be tied to an exploit, and the runs have now been removed from the leaderboards. The top verified keys in week 5 capped at level 187. And in week 6, this hasn’t been beaten yet. And just like the interest in lower keys has reached its limit, the high-end keys might not see that much more gains.

Mythic+ Run Data by RaiderIO

Almost 80% of all keys were done at 20 and higher. The individual capstone participation reflects the overall shift towards high-level cosmetics. +20 keys have dropped from 3.21% to 3.01%, and level 30 dropped from 17.28% down to 13.47%. It remains the main focus, but the key levels approaching 40 are gaining traction. +40 climbed from 3.50% to 4.37%. It might turn into the main draw once the Remix mode nears its end.

Conclusion and Week 14 Forecast

Retail M+ numbers are nearing their long-term baseline. After the last hoorah of Remix in week 15, we might see a slight bump from the transferred characters. By now, we have lost all hope for last-minute nerfs to Ara-Kara and Floodgate. This year’s holiday season is shaping up to be uneventful for M+. Housing will keep those who pre-ordered busy.

As of this writing, 120 hours after the US reset, hourly numbers in major regions is only showing slight declines. EU and CN are 6.37% and 4.91% behind. US servers are showing more interest in the dungeon event, with a current plus of 1.1%. Though that could also be related to Beta testing kicking off. It’s safe to assume that a lot of players already pre-ordered and are now testing the class changes. Within the upcoming weeks, besides regular breakdowns, we will be focusing on the overall dungeon and affix balance in this season. And given that Seat of Triumvirate is returning, we will take a look at the, for now, worst dungeon in M+ history.
