WoW Fans Want an Animated Series, Just Not on Netflix

In a recent Variety article, Blizzard said it wants to expand its major franchises into film and television. And, of course, that immediately got World of Warcraft players talking about one thing in particular.

An animated series.

This recent Reddit discussion is a good example of what WoW players are currently debating across the community when it comes to a potential animated series. It is clear that fans would love to see Warcraft adapted into a long-form animated show instead of another live-action attempt.

The general feeling across most players, or at least the ones that commented, is that Azeroth works better in animation. Orcs, void creatures, dragons, and the Void all translate more naturally when you are not trying to force them into real-world sets and actors.

Animation Yes, Netflix No

Excitement about animation is strong. Trust in platforms is where things get a bit more complicated.

A lot of players specifically mention Netflix as a concern. The hesitation is not really about animation itself, but about adaptation history. Multiple comments bring up fears of major lore changes, rushed writing decisions, or shows getting canceled after a single season. For a world as big as Warcraft, fans want long-term commitment and respect for the source material, not something that comes and goes before the story has time to grow.

There are also comparisons to recent animated successes like Arcane and Castlevania, which showed that fantasy game worlds can work extremely well in series format if the writing and long-term commitment are there. At the same time, many fans bring up Blizzard cinematic CGI trailers and say that is the visual tone they would love to see, even if producing a full series at that level would be far more expensive and harder to sustain.

Officially, no Warcraft show has been announced. Blizzard has only said it is open to expanding into TV and film. That sentence was enough to make some of us excited, though.

Overall, the message from the community is clear and quite unanimous: If Warcraft ever becomes a series, players want it animated, handled with care, and given enough time to actually tell the story properly.
