There’s a lot of bugs in WoW, but some are pretty beneficial, and some even get you a friend! A player logged in to an old Death Knight and realized they had a permanent ghoul pet – in Frost spec!
The Tale of Rocktaker
The colorfully named Psyduckdontgiveafuck apparently also doesn’t care for the rules of the game. After logging in a 5-year-old Death knight, they realized they had the permanent ghoul pet, Rocktaker. We’ve seen reports like this, and usually the pet disappears after a logout, zone-in/out, and similar activities. However, Rocktaker seems to me MUCH more resilient!
The Psyduck-who-doesn’t-much-care tested many of these unsummon triggers, but none worked! The ghoul was a steady companion throughout. Obviously, changing specs is a big no-no, and heading into a group finder activity was also avoided, as was dying. Zoning, logging out, hearthstoning, flying, nothing seems to get rid of him! He just appears instead of using the usual summon animation. He is also very much normal in other ways, as he does deal damage etc.
The new permanent friend was probably caused by a gear upgrade while in Unholy spec, but we can’t be sure.
Hardcore Mode Activated
Now, this may sound like a pretty powerful effect, just getting an extra pet in a spec that isn’t supposed to have one. And sure, it is, but aside from the fact that it’s not really readily replicable, it also involves its owner not dying. Ever. The ghoul also has to survive, so you have to spend Runic Power to keep him alive, lowering your usual DPS. So while Rocktaker is certainly a big boon to its master, unless they keep to very safe activities and don’t suffer an unfortunately timed disconnect, he will eventually go away!
A Near-Unsummon
As with all tales, there was a low point in Rocktaker’s as well, as he nearly went away permanently! He was chugging along in a Dragon Soul mount run, and somewhere around Spine Psyduck realized their new friend was gone! It looked like he was sacrificed to the mount drop gods, as the run did yield the 
Blazing Drake, as well as the 
Awake the Drakes achievement!
However, this was merely a setback for Rocktaker. He appeared right back at his master’s frosty side after a simple logout!
A Fan-Favorite
As you’d expect, the community was very much taken by Rocktaker, as he’s become quite the star!

The Ghoul Plague Spreads
Other Death Knights are now coming out of the woodwork and realizing that they too have permanent ghouls in non-Unholy specs! Znuffie is now the proud owner of one as Blood, and there are probably many more out there as well. Znuffie lost theirs after a death in a Timewalking dungeon, showcasing how fragile they really are. One of the ghoul horde less!
In case this post contributes to Blizzard realizing this as an issue, I deeply apologize to all Rocktakers out there for killing them. But seriously Blizz, leave the poor ghouls alone. They don’t really do much damage in these specs! You said you wanted a more social game!
