WoW Players Flood Floodgate Dungeon While Testing S3 Class Changes

The second post-season week of TWW S3 is over, and Nightstalker314 is taking a look at the weekly data provided by Raider.IO. After a major surge in the previous week, this one continued just as strong. The focus shifted towards lower and high-end keys. Even though all gear progress is now short-lived with the upcoming addon release, players seem to enjoy testing out classes and the changes to them. So let’s look at the details.

Weekly Total Run Performance Compared To Other Seasons

The global number of completed runs barely changed, with a drop of just 0.94%. The minor regional difference boils down to -2.15% on the Chinese servers and just -0.34% in the other regions. DF S4, after the end of Remix, showed a similar pattern. But for TWW S3, the trend continues even in the third post-season week so far. This might be tied to an ongoing influx of new and returning players. The advertisement for Midnight is currently firing on all cylinders.

Activity on the Chinese servers remains somewhat stable. But the slightly larger drop reduced their global share to 32.71%. A new seasonal low-point. But surprisingly, the trend of the previous weeks has come to a bit of a hold.

Total Runs Across All S3 Dungeons

The split across all dungeons has narrowed down a bit from the previous week. Floodgate continues to dominate as the new favorite dungeon. And this is a trend across almost all key levels. While the efficient trash pulls and the convenient travel time are a general bonus, the loot table makes it even more desirable in the lower key range. The order of dungeons barely changed. Only Gambit and Priory swapped positions.

Completed & Timed M+ Dungeons (Week 25)

The overall success rate decreased slightly by 0.62 percentage points, down to 94.32%. With some variation, this happened for every dungeon. The main reason can be attributed to efforts of pushing more high-level keys. Eco-dome (97.44%) remained on top, ahead of Gambit (96.39%) and Streets (96.20%). Halls (94.93%) was somewhat behind with a similar distance above Priory (93.39%). Dawnbreaker (92.99%) was just ahead of Floodgate (92.96%). And Ara-Kara (90.08%) is once again dead last. The three dungeons that lost close to one percentage point call for much larger and riskier pulls on higher key levels.

Split Across All S3 Key Levels

68.70% of all keys were completed at key level 10 and higher. This value remained almost unchanged compared to the previous week. But key level 10 (14.66%) and especially key level 12 (20.72%) gained a lot in relative share and total runs. Around 4 and, respectively, 8 percentage points. On the lower end, key levels 4, 7, and 8 made some major gains. The only major drop-offs occurred from levels 13 to 18. Above that, players were once again testing their limits with the new class changes, leading to higher metrics.

Key Split Across Key Levels (Week 25)

As a result, the success rates tanked in the high-end key level range. For the lower levels, there was barely any change. But with success rates just below 100%, the impact of any affix change is barely noticeable from week to week. Overall, the graph across all key levels almost resembles a pattern of earlier expansions, when players would just run higher keys, regardless of depletion. Over the last few expansions, high-end keys were abandoned more often, or not even started, when the risk of depletion was too high.

Conclusion and Post-Season Week 2 Forecast

Players across the board seem to use these last few weeks as a testing ground for all the class changes. Activity remains on a stable level, and a lot more new characters enter the continued leaderboards each week.

As of this writing, 120 hours after the US reset, hourly numbers for the main regions have stayed at almost identical levels as in the previous week. The US and the CN servers are ahead by about 1%, and for the EU, the trend is even stronger, with a plus of 6%. We’ll examine this further in the breakdown next weekend.
