WoW Players Were Already Arguing About This on Launch Day

The world of Azeroth is constantly expanding with the release of The Burning Crusade Anniversary Classic earlier this week, and World of Warcraft’s 11th expansion Midnight releasing March 2nd. A world that has played a role in the lives of millions of people globally is still such a force 21 years after its launch.

Some would still consider it the king of the MMO genre.

It’s easy to forget even World of Warcraft, a game with a strong global presence today, had its quiet beginnings. New players who were exploring the world for the first time learned as the game went on.

One reddit user shared a screenshot from Allakhazam forums, showing what players were talking about on launch day, November 23, 2004.

Even two decades ago, as players were learning everything about the game, players were debating what classes are better, talking about queue times, whether you should take a gathering profession, PvP and PvE, and searching for guilds.

Compared to Everquest and FFXI, World of Warcraft did things better some users said. Quest markers, complex combat, and a faster pace of play.

The forum is still available to browse as well for those who want a trip down memory lane, or to see what players were talking about at the time. It’s still active to post, but players have moved to other forums/communities to ask their questions. Returning to the first page shows only a handful of new posts in the last decade.
