They’re back! Two iconic Final Fantasy 7 reference characters return in Midnight, after being gone for an expansion!
Aerith and Koraud in the War Within
The two NPCs referencing the protagonist of FF7 and one of the companions have been around a long time in WoW. Aerith made her debut back in Wrath of the Lich King and Koraud in Legion. It’s been a relatively short while since we’ve seen them, only one full expansion! The last we saw of them was during Xal’atath’s attack on Dalaran in the War Within intro. We found Aerith seemingly dead, but it turned out she was actually fine.
We didn’t get a nice little event like that for Koraud, but he’s there with the rest of the people evacuating the city before Xal’atath’s big move. You can check that little interaction here. After the evacuation, we don’t get to see them again.
The Midnight Return
Players have now spotted the two making a comeback as permanent NPCs in Silvermoon! Aerith is back to selling flowers and Koraud is… well just hanging around, this time getting to lean on crates!
This is actually the second major gaming reference recently spotted in Midnight, as players found another very similar one, this one much closer to home, from a Microsoft franchise. The Arbiter from Halo 2 can be found in the new Haranir zone!
It’s great to see these two in general, even if they are just Easter eggs, but it’s even better to see the world keep moving. After Dalaran’s fall, they continued their lives, and seeing them in a new location adds a lot to the world’s immersion. If you’re looking for them on the Beta, they’re at 49.0 75.8 in Silvermoon.
