Blizzard Survey Asks Diablo 2 Players About Major D2R Changes

A Diablo 2: Resurrected player recently shared screenshots of a Blizzard survey asking about possible future features for the game. The post quickly caught the attention of the Diablo community.

According to the player, Blizzard sent out a research survey that asked participants to rank different ideas based on how appealing they sounded. The options ranged from small quality-of-life updates to much larger changes like new content or even a potential expansion.

Blizzard also included the usual disclaimer in the survey:

“The elements you see are purely for research purposes. There is no guarantee any of these elements will appear in Diablo II: Resurrected in the future.”

In any case, the list gives us an interesting look at what Blizzard might be exploring internally.

From Small QoL Updates to a Possible Act VI

Most of the survey options focused on quality-of-life improvements that longtime Diablo 2 players have been requesting for many years.

Some examples included:

  • Visible buff timers for things like Barbarian Warcries
  • Showing item level (ilvl) directly on item tooltips
  • Extra chat commands such as /deaths or /timeplayed
  • Better in-game trading tools similar to Path of Exile

Outside of the usual QoL suggestions, however, the survey also included ideas that were much bigger and surprised a lot of readers/players.

There were mentions of things like:

  • A Charm inventory or charm bag
  • A Horadric Cube recipe book that unlocks recipes as you discover them
  • New mercenaries, including a possible Act IV merc
  • A potential Act VI expansion with new quests and bosses

Of course, it comes as no surprise that the community reaction to this survey has been a little mixed so far. Generally, players seem to like the idea of small improvements and balance updates, especially buffs for weaker sets, uniques, and builds.

However, there is also strong pushback against systems that could push Diablo 2 closer to Diablo 3 or Diablo 4. Paragon-style progression, heavy skill reworks, and monetization were especially unpopular in the discussion.

For now, this is only a survey. But it does show that Blizzard is at least exploring ideas for the future of Diablo 2: Resurrected.
