| Burn | Applies Burning Damage Over Time |
Burn is a Fire-based Damage over Time (DoT) effect in Diablo 4. When an enemy or player is affected by Burn, they take periodic Fire damage for a short duration. The total damage and duration depend on the skill or effect that applied the Burn. Burn damage scales with the player’s damage bonuses and does not deal a percentage of the target’s health.
Burn is not a stacking status effect. If multiple abilities apply Burn, each one creates its own damage instance, but repeatedly applying Burn from the same skill will refresh or update its DoT rather than stack it.
How to Apply Burn
Burn can be applied by both, the player and the enemies. Some Skills, Items, and Passives can cause this effect. Some Legendary Aspects can also enhance this effect, such as the
Aspect of Conflagration.
Here are some examples of Skills or Passives related to the Burn Status Effect:
| Class | Skill | Passive |
|---|---|---|
| Sorcerer | Fire Bolt Incinerate | Devouring Blaze |
How to Recognize Burn
Burn appears as a red flame icon above the target’s health bar and is accompanied by a fiery visual effect surrounding the character or enemy. The Burn persists visually until the Damage over Time effect expires.
