| Status Effect Name | Effect Description |

| Darkness | Reduces the target’s vision and disables their abilities |
Darkness is primarily a skill category for the Necromancer that focuses on Shadow Damage, Damage over Time, and debuffs.
Darkness is not a traditional status effect like Vulnerable or Daze. Instead, it is a school of Shadow-based attacks used primarily by the Necromancer. Darkness skills commonly also apply Shadow Damage over Time, weaken enemies, or create persistent zones of crowd control/damage.
Darkness interacts with several Necromancer passives and Legendary Aspects that amplify Shadow damage or trigger secondary Shadow effects.
Darkness scales with:
- Shadow Damage
- Damage over Time
- Intelligence
- Multipliers from Darkness-specific skill upgrades and Paragon nodes
How to Apply Darkness
Some Skills, Items, and Passives can cause this effect. And some Legendary Aspects can also enhance the effect, such as the
Aspect of Ultimate Shadow.
Here are some examples of Skills or Passives related to the Darkness Status Effect:
| Class | Skill | Passive |
|---|---|---|
| Necromancer | Reap Sever | Reaper’s Pursuit Crippling Darkness |
How to Recognize Darkness
When affected by Darkness, the screen will blacken, and vision will be reduced, disabling abilities during that time.
In order to avoid being afflicted by Darkness, watch out for large puddles on the ground that look like dark holes, and try to avoid them.
Enemies affected by Darkness skills may:
- Suffer Shadow DoT damage
- Take periodic explosions from Shadowblight
- Move slower due to passives like Crippling Darkness
- Stand in persistent Shadow pools (e.g., Blight)
Additional Information About Darkness
Darkness builds specialize in stacking multiple sources of Shadow DoT damage and triggering Shadowblight procs. Many Necromancer builds combine Darkness skills with Crowd Control or Vulnerable effects to maximize damage.
