Status Effect NameEffect Description
OverpowerOverpower is a rare hit modifier with a 3% base chance to trigger on direct damage. This includes basic attacks and active skills, but excludes damage-over-time (DoT) effects, channeled skills, and passive-only effects.
When it occurs, the hit deals bonus damage equal to up to +50% of your current Life and Fortify.

Certain skills, aspects, passives, or seasonal perks can guarantee or increase Overpower events. These guarantees are scripted procs (for example, once every 12 seconds or after becoming Fortified) and do not stack with the base chance. Gear and stats cannot increase the base 3% chance, only specific class mechanics can guarantee it. Because of this, Overpower is usually inconsistent unless you build around guaranteed effects. In those cases, it can become one of the strongest mechanics in the game.

How to Apply Overpower

Overpower can be triggered by both the player and enemies. However, not all classes can make good use of it. Druids, Barbarians, and Necromancers have skills that can guarantee Overpower hits and make the mechanic more consistent.

Some skills, items, passives, and affixes can also increase Overpower’s damage. Legendary Aspects exist that further enhance it, such as the Aspect of Rathma's ChosenAspect of Rathma’s Chosen.

How to Recognize Overpower

When a skill Overpowers, you will see it in the color of the damage (or healing) numbers:

  • White numbers show normal Damage dealt
  • Blue numbers show Overpower Damage dealt
  • Orange numbers show Overpower Damage combined with Critical Strike Damage dealt

Enemies can also Overpower you, which will appear as blue damage numbers from elites or bosses.

Additional Information About Overpower

  • Scaling: Overpower Damage scales with current Life + Fortify, up to 50% bonus damage.
  • Overpower Damage stat: Increased by Willpower (+0.25% per point) and can also roll on gear, affixes, and Paragon nodes.
  • Overpower chance: Stays fixed at 3% unless guaranteed by class skills, aspects, or passives.
  • Overpower can apply to both damage and healing, meaning certain Necromancer skills (like Blood LanceBlood Lance) can critically heal when they Overpower.
  • In PvP, Overpower Damage is capped at 150%.

Overpower is powerful but situational. Unless your build has guaranteed procs, most setups treat it as bonus damage rather than something to fully rely on.
