Season 10 of Diablo 4 has plenty of wild moments, but one scene currently has players completely confused. In the seasonal questline, the main NPC ally suddenly stabs a stranger from behind… and then just walks away.
There is no build-up to this moment, no follow-up, and no explanation either. Just a casual murder, and then the story keeps going.

The Scene Everyone Is Talking About
During the questline, you travel with Shyan (who is the main NPC ally during the season campaign playthrough) when she suddenly walks up to a man looking out at the water… and stabs him. At that point, there is no dialogue happening, and she does so without warning. Afterward, she walks off, and you are left standing there wondering, “uhh, what just happened?”

Players on Reddit joked it was just “business as usual” in Sanctuary. A few thought it might even be a hint that Shyan is secretly connected to Bartuc.
But not everyone was confused. Some players pointed out that if you actually listen to the dialogue, she mentions being “on business” while in disguise. That is where the actual Diablo lore comes in.
Connecting the Dots With Diablo Lore
Digging into Diablo lore gives us a clue. Shyan is connected to the Viz-Jaq’taar, also known as the Mage Slayers. They are an order of assassins who deal with corrupt magic users and eliminate threats from the shadows.
So, while it looked like a random seaside murder, it might not have been random at all. That “poor guy enjoying the view” may have been a mage target marked for execution. If that is true, then her actions were not weird or a plot hole; it was her literally doing her job as an assassin.
Wait… What Just Happened?
Even if the lore backs it up, the scene still felt totally random to a lot of players. Without that context, it just looks like Shyan is out here stabbing some guy on Sanctuary for no reason. That left people confused, laughing, or even assuming it was a bug.
Blizzard probably meant it as a subtle nod to her roots, but instead it turned into one of the most talked-about moments of the current season.
