Despite competing with giants like Elder Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo 4 holds its ground with a loyal and highly active player base!
Alinea’s latest playtime distribution data sheds light on how Diablo 4 compares when it comes to time investment and where it falls behind.

Among the three RPG powerhouses (Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate, and Diablo 4), Blizzard’s title has the smallest Steam player base at 1.5 million. However it has the highest percentage of players exceeding 500 hours of gameplay at 2.3%.
This puts Diablo 4 ahead of both Elden Ring (2.1%) and Baldur’s Gate (1.4%) in terms of extremely-dedicated players!
Story Completion Over Endgame for Many
While Diablo 4 shines in ints top-tier engagement, a large portion of its audience falls into the 10 to 50-hour playtime range. It leads both competitors in the 10-15h, 15-20h, and 20-50h, suggesting many players enjoy the main campaign but stop playing before fully diving into seasonal or endgame content.
How Diablo 4 Stacks Up Against the Competition
- 26.7% of players play D4 from 100-500 hours, copared to Elden Ring’s 42.6% and BG3’s 32.3%
- Diablo 4 shows relatively low abandonment under 5 hours, with fewer early drop-offs than Elden Ring, which had the highest share in this group.
