Why Runes Are a Big Problem and How Blizzard Could Fix Them

Season 10 has brought high-speed builds and fun content, but for many players, that comes with a small issue that still remains!

Runes are often left behind. Pets can not pick up runes at all, and some players only realize they missed one after backtracking through dungeons. Unlike gear, runes are not automatically sent to your stash, making it easy to lose important ones.

A lot of players shared the issue on Reddit:

Suggested Quality-of-Life Improvements

Players have shared some really good ideas to make runes more manageable:

  • Mail runes directly to your stash – Legendary gear is sent to your stash when you leave one on the floor, but many players want the same thing to happen to runes.
  • Mini-map icons – A simple icon on the mini-map could mark rune drops, similar to how other items are tracked.
  • Faster and smarter pets – Pets should be able to pick up loot off-screen or have a larger pickup radius, and include important items such as Runes and other valuable loot.
  • Loot filters for pets – Let players customize the items pets automatically grab or dismantle, similar to Diablo 3.

One player even proposed adding a separate sound effect for rune drops, making it easier to notice when you are fighting. At least this way you know when there is one nearby that dropped.

Why Is This So Important

Runes are important for optimizing builds, especially for endgame content. Missing them repeatedly can slow progression, frustrate players, and make you struggle to find the one Rune you need, when you possibly missed it on the ground somewhere and did not notice.

As one user put it, “I can only imagine I’ve surely missed hundreds more by now that I never knew about.

The current hope is that changes are also coming for Runes in Season 11! We will make sure to update you on that if anything is adjusted in the future!
