Final Fantasy 14 is currently holding a Fan Festival in Berlin. Yoshi P shared an extended new trailer for the upcoming Evercold expansion, and he also revealed the new Bastion tank job!
But even if Bastion is no longer a mystery, the expansion’s second job still is.
We already know it is a physical ranged DPS, but Square Enix will only reveal what exactly it is during the Tokyo Fan Festival later this year. But that has not stopped fans from searching the new trailer for clues, and one particular character is clearly the center of attention!
A New Character Is Raising Eyebrows
During the extended trailer, the camera zooms in and lingers a little bit too long on a new character, to be something entirely innocent. This character is wearing what appear to be pilot goggles, carrying a sort of wand or stick/baton, and accompanied by a falcon.

But the bird is not just perched on her shoulder or flying by. It looks like they are really close, and as if she is actively directing it. This led many players to wonder if that falcon is more than just a pet companion. She also wears typical ranged DPS gear.
The section with the Falcon is not that long. But it definitely looks surprisingly deliberate, and that is exactly why fans are paying so much attention to it. There is also a slow-motion shot at a symbol when her wand activates, and it could be a hint at the actual second job’s class icon!

Could the Next Job Be a Falconeer?
The most popular theory so far is that the mysterious character is teasing the expansion’s second job. And the most popular guess is a Falconeer-style physical ranged class.
The idea would certainly fit Final Fantasy 14’s current Physical ranged DPS. Those already include Bard, Machinist, and Dancer, and a falcon-focused job would bring something entirely new to the role. Instead of relying on firearms, music, or dancing, a Falconeer could potentially fight alongside a trained bird, issuing commands and attacking from range.
At this stage, that is purely community speculation, but it is a pretty good guess if you ask me!
Yoshida Loves Leaving Clues
Part of the reason players are taking the theory seriously is Yoshi P’s habit of leaving pretty obvious clues. Over the years, the Final Fantasy 14 producer and director has developed a reputation for hiding subtle hints before new jobs are officially revealed. Fans have successfully picked up on a few of those teases in previous expansions. So now every new trailer is a treasure hunt for eagle-eyed viewers.
That does not necessarily mean this new character represents the upcoming job. She could simply be an important story NPC introduced in Evercold.
Still, it was worth pointing out! Now we will have to wait for the next Fan Festival for the official reveal!
