Genshin Impact Players Say Lunar Reactions Could Become a Problem

When Nod-Krai launched in Genshin Impact, it did not just bring a new region and characters. It also introduced Lunar Reactions, a new combat mechanic linked to some of the characters from that nation.

Several months later, though, the system is still worrying some players.

The main reason is that only certain characters can trigger Lunar Reactions, and so far, those have mostly been Nod-Krai five-star characters. Even if the mechanic itself is interesting and adds another layer to combat, some players worry about what that could mean for the future of team building and endgame content.

Are Lunar Reactions Too Restricted?

The discussion started to come up again recently on social media, where one player pointed out that Lunar Reactions do not really have the same kind of workarounds that previous regional mechanics did.

In the past, mechanics like Pneuma/Ousia in Fontaine or Nightsoul in Natlan were linked to certain characters, but there were usually some alternative ways to deal with enemies or a few more accessible options.

With Lunar Reactions, things feel a bit different. Right now, triggering them generally requires specific 5-Star Nod-Krai characters, and that means players who do not pull for them may end up not being able to completely clear upcoming endgame content. Some players are particularly worried about how this could affect endgame modes, especially since bosses start to heavily rely on Lunar mechanics.

For players who prefer saving their Primogems or simply pulling for characters they like rather than for meta reasons, that design can feel restrictive.

Some players also argue that it should have been linked to Moonsign. For example, higher Moonsign levels could have buffed the Lunar reactions, but this would have implied that any character who has Moonsign could have triggered Lunar Reactions. This way, Jahoda, Aino, or Illuga could have actually triggered Lunar Reactions on their own, without being just supports for the 5-Star characters.

It Is Just Part of the Game

Of course, not everyone sees this as a big problem.

Some players point out that Genshin has always pushed new characters through regional mechanics, and that Lunar Reactions are simply the latest example. Others argue that it is still too early to tell how important the mechanic will be long-term.

There is also the possibility that future characters, including 4-stars, could expand access to Lunar Reactions, and that would immediately make the system feel less restrictive.

At the moment, Lunar Reactions remain an interesting addition to Genshin Impact’s combat system, but they are also one of the more divisive mechanics introduced in recent updates. Now it will only depend on HoYoverse. If they make Lunar reactions required to beat future bosses, it could really become a problem. However, if this “disappears” once we leave Nod-krai, similar to Nightsoul mechanics, the discussion will be closed soon.

Will Snezhnaya expand on Lunar mechanics, or will it come with yet another new one?
