Genshin Impact just released one of its most important lore videos! Players are already calling it a turning point for the story, and they are so right!

Song of the Welkin Moon Teaser: Moonlit Ballad of the Night is the new animated teaser that gives us a first look into the most ancient myths of Teyvat! Between new characters, and mysterious tales, it is a teaser that will definitely hype people up for Nod-Krai! If nothing made you want to come back to Genshin, this definitely will!

The video is full of a ton of symbolism, poetic storytelling, and important dialogue that connects past, present, and future. You can watch the video here:

We made a small breakdown of the most important revelations!

A Moon That Watches, Cries, and Waits

The video opens with a small kid, Aino, calling for Varka, telling him Nefer started her story already. The mysterious figure begins reciting an old tale: “That tale begins long, long ago…”

We are told of a time when life and death were not something separated, and willpower was moving freely among all living beings. A primordial one once ruled over the world, raising three moons from the Earth itself. This is a reference that may link to the myth of the three lunar sisters from early Genshin lore.

The Primordial’s voice was only heard once more during a mysterious time known as “The Funerary Year.” What happened then remains unknown, but it seems to mark a really important event in Teyvat’s ancient history.

We also spot a new character, Jahoda, and Durin. Jahoda seems surprised to see Durin’s horns, mistaking it for a unique headpiece. She also mentions: “The moon’s a long way off… We might go hungry, but we have plenty of time.” Are we really going to head to the Moon? Or does she mean Mondstadt?

Frostmoon Scions & Hyperborea

A new group is mentioned by Sandrone (Fatui Harbinger – Marionette): the “Frostmoon Scions“, portrayed as rebels with a futile cause. It may be those who tried to defy fate, the gods, or even the moon itself.

Lauma, that we saw at the end of the last Genshin livestream, is praying to the moon as one of the Scion of Hyperborea, asking for light and guidance in the cold darkness:

May your gentle tears pierce the frigid night

And grant us, the forsaken and forgotten, your guiding light

Shadows, Lies, and the Fall of the Moon

The narrator eventually steps aside, claiming that someone else more talented should carry the story forward. Reeyn steps in, continuing the tale. We then hear of a shadow behind the moonlight, with claws extending toward the stars, a pretty chilling image that may hint at the Abyss, or even Celestia’s enemies.

Varka then finally shows himself, admitting he did not come for the story, but for the Moon (implying, for Mondstadt). A new character then enters as well: Flins. Mysterious and Dark, he simply says that we came for the wrong person and turns us away.

Columbina makes an appearance as well, telling us “In the water, the future mirrors the past. The veil of lies is slipping… Time is short, the Moon’s fall is nigh.” Is she possibly hinting at Mondstadt’s impending fall?

Alice & Vengeance

Just as the atmosphere grows heavy, Alice finally appears! While things look even messier than last time, she is quickly joined by Albedo, and they clearly have a specific plan in mind! So things are definitely going to go down in Mondstadt!

Alice states there is no rush, and she wants to catch up with an old friend first! Possibly Venti, or maybe Varka or even Durin? Surprisingly, she seemed to be traveling with Wanderer! Who decides to part ways here, having an “old score of his own to settle“.

One thing is clear, this is not just a teaser, it is a full on lore bomb that goes deep inside the dark mysteries of Genshin Impact. From early legends like the three moons and primordial one, to the upcoming fate of Mondstadt, and all of Teyvat!

Nod-Krai will definitely come with both a ton of reveals, and a ton of new mysteries!
