Genshin Impact has officially confirmed Nicole as the upcoming playable character, and if you have been following the Nod Krai story, this is not exactly a surprise.
She has already played a pretty big role there, but this is the first time we are getting her full character reveal as a playable character.
A Character Deeply Linked to the World’s Lore
Nicole was already established as part of the Hexenzirkel, so that part is not new, but the official post gives much more information about her past and how she fits into that mysterious Mage organisation.
The whole “Voiceless Angel” angle gets expanded here. The text paints her as someone who has been around for a long time, carrying memories of events that go way back, long before most of what we have seen in-game.
It is also a bit more personal than expected. Instead of just big historical lore, it shows how she ended up joining the Hexenzirkel, with a pretty light contrast between her and the more playful mage who brought her in. A tiny Witch with “an enormous hat” (long-time players will know exactly who that was) created the Hexenzirkel and invited Nicole to join it. Even though Nicole could not really answer, the little witch decided their mages’ pact was already made anyway, and no one could have guessed what the little gathering called the Hexenzirkel would one day grow into.
Nicole was only sure of one thing: “It did sound like a place with happiness enough to spare.”
A 5-Star Pyro Support With Strong Buffs
On the gameplay side, Nicole is a 5-star Pyro Catalyst, and she is very clearly designed as a support since she brings a shield with very high uptime, Team-wide buffs, especially for Attack-based characters, and strong synergy with teams that rely on multiple damage sources.
She also has synergy with other Hexenzirkel-related characters, so teams with characters like Durin, Varka, or Venti, for example, will benefit a lot from her.
That said, she has her limits too:
- Some of her buffs take a couple of seconds to fully kick in
- She does not apply Pyro off-field
- Parts of her kit can feel a bit inconsistent depending on timing
So even if she is flexible, she cannot be played in just any composition either.
Nicole is one of those characters that seems designed to push the story forward, and at the same time, also brings a solid support option for a large selection of teams.
