Will Cyrene’s 3.7 Release Break Honkai’s Balance?

It’s a great day for Honkai: Star Rail fans, especially those waiting for Cyrene. Hoyoverse just released her drip marketing, and the artwork is absolutely stunning. But beyond the official reveal, how much do we really know about Cyrene… or perhaps more than we realize?

A Must-Pull Unit?

The drip marketing confirms what leaks hinted at: Cyrene is an Ice Remembrance character. That also suggests that the recent leaks are probably accurate. According to them, she’s designed as a universal support but can also serve as a sub-DPS thanks to her memosprite. And when they say “universal”, it likely means she’ll fit into almost any team, similar to how Sunday works.

Another recent leak stirred up plenty of discussion. It claims that Cyrene would have an especially strong synergy with Castorice, while still working well with the rest of Amphoreus’ limited characters. However, considering Castorice’s current team setup, adding another piece to the puzzle feels a bit off. That makes this leak feel fairly unreliable. Instead of being a character locked into supporting Castorice, it’s more likely that Cyrene will shine alongside just about anyone

As for Cyrene’s kit, we’ll need to wait until the Beta drops in about two weeks to get the whole picture. Still, a few details have already surfaced. She’s said to have multiple skills, possibly including memosprite skills, much like Phainon. Cyrene can enhance her basic attack, and her skill is said to buff the entire team. Early impressions suggest she could be a limited version of the Remembrance Trailblazer, bringing True Damage and possibly Action Advance to the table.

Another “Global Passive” Drama Incoming?

If you’ve been around since Amphoreus first dropped, you can probably guess where this is heading. A big concern with Cyrene is whether she might come with another global passive, similar to Castorice. For context, Castorice has a unique passive that activates just by owning her. It doesn’t matter if she’s actually in your team. The effect lets one character cheat death and revive with a single HP. That makes it one of the most impactful passives in the game, simply because of how it activates.

When Castorice’s passive was revealed during the anniversary livestream, it sparked huge controversy in the HSR community. Many players felt it essentially forced them to pull for her, with some even labeling it pay-to-win. However, in reality, the backlash was somewhat overblown. Sure, the passive can be helpful, but missing out on it doesn’t make your account unplayable by any means.

That being said, the concept of global passives itself has the potential to become a real problem. If HoYoverse ever introduced one that directly boosted team damage, it could raise serious questions about game balance. And that’s exactly what some fans fear might happen with Cyrene.

She’s already one of the most anticipated characters, with sales projections expected to outpace even Phainon and Castorice. If HoYoverse were ever going to test the waters with another global passive, Cyrene would be the perfect candidate. As a universal support and the only banner headlining version 3.7, her sales are almost guaranteed to be massive.

What do you think about Cyrene? Will you pull for her when she comes out?
