Lagiacrus is finally back, and it’s not just a nostalgic cameo. The iconic Thunder Leviathan, first introduced in Monster Hunter 3, makes its return in Monster Hunter Wilds as part of Title Update 2, arriving June 30. This time, it’s a full 8★ Tempered threat with both land and underwater phases, which makes this fight one of the most exciting and unique encounters in the game so far.
How to unlock Lagiacrus
To unlock the special Lagiacrus hunt, you need to:
- Reach Hunter Rank 31 or higher
- Complete the main story mission: “A World Turned Upside Down”
- Complete the side mission: “Forest Doshaguma”
Once all that is done, you’ll get access to the extra mission that features the Lord of the Seas himself.
Tempered Lagiacrus unlocks later, after you complete the extra mission above and reach HR 41 or higher. That hunt will be marked as an 8★ Tempered quest, so be prepared.
Both hunts drop new materials you will need for Lagiacrus gear and weapons, and the tempered version brings the real challenge (and better drops). More rewards will also be tied to the limited-time seasonal event running alongside the patch.
What makes it special?
- The fight includes underwater segments, where you cannot use weapons, so you’ll need to time your attacks carefully and make smart use of the terrain.
- Lagiacrus comes with powerful lightning and water-based abilities, and can cover huge ground when enraged.
- Defeating it unlocks new armor sets for you and your Palico, available both as gear and layered options.
This is a fight you definitely don’t want to miss. It does not matter if you are a returning hunter, excited to see this iconic enemy again, or new to the game; Lagiacrus is a very special hunt, and it will officially release tomorrow, on June 30, with the launch of Title Update 2.
