Ubisoft is going all in with the whole Pirate fantasy and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced! To celebrate the remake, they are setting up an actual real-life treasure hunt, and the reward is pretty crazy.
The company teamed up with Unsolved Hunts and has officially announced a massive real-world treasure hunt called “Gold & Crystal – The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway,” and yes, there is apparently a real treasure buried somewhere in the Caribbean.
You can already access the official website for it, where you can find all the information on how to participate.
A Hunt for Gold and a Crystal Skull
The full hunt officially begins on November 9, 2026, but you can already register to participate. Sadly, it is not free, and you can pre-order multiple packages for the hunt.
The first pack is at 34.99€ and includes just the digital version of the hunt. Prices then go up to 199.99€ for the biggest one. It will include both physical and digital versions of the hunt, and a ton of additional goodies like notebooks, Kenway’s flag, and more.

The goal? Solve 15 Riddles to locate a hidden chest somewhere in the Caribbean where you can dig up a treasure full of custom gold coins made for the occasion, and a crystal skull set with an opal worth 500 000$ in total (coins + Skull). Do not worry, the hunt is fully digital, but the first person who solves it will be flown out to the Caribbean to dig up the treasure!

If you pre-order any of the packages, you also get a few pretty cool bonuses:
- A preliminary quest
- The official description says: “You will immediately receive access to your digital interface, including a prologue to the hunt. With an average of 10 hours of gameplay, it will immerse you in the atmosphere and give you a taste of the logic and deduction required for what lies ahead.”
- The first puzzle in advance
- If you manage to complete the preliminary quest, you will also get the first puzzle of Gold & Crystal before everyone else. Gives you a nice head start.
- Full access to the hunt one week before the public
- You get access to all the puzzles one week before the official release
So basically, pre-ordering this will give you a serious head start.
The Hunt Is Designed to Take Years
Unlike smaller, similar promotional events, Ubisoft says this challenge is intentionally HUGE. Those who decide to participate will need to decode cryptic letters, analyze maps, solve archive puzzles, and piece together clues connected to Assassin’s Creed lore.
And apparently, Ubisoft does not expect anyone to solve it quickly since they estimated that the treasure hunt could last anywhere between 2 years, all the way up to 5 years!
And that honestly makes this one of the wildest game marketing campaigns Ubisoft has attempted in a long time.
You Do Not Need Black Flag Knowledge to Participate
Ubisoft did confirm that it can be completed remotely and does not require prior knowledge of Black Flag, so if you never played the original game and do not intend to play the remake, you can also just participate because you want to join a cool Pirate hunt.
That said, longtime Assassin’s Creed fans will notice a lot of references and hidden lore connections throughout the puzzles, so it might give you an advantage if you know a few things about the game.
Either way, by the time someone finally solves it, there is a good chance Ubisoft may already have released another Assassin’s Creed game entirely. But for fans of pirate stories, mysteries, and giant real-life puzzle hunts, this is honestly a pretty fascinating idea linked to the Black Flag remake launch!
So, are you going to go on a new adventure?
